S’more Fun

This post is about to be one of the most frivolous I could compose, but the topic is one dear to my heart—s’mores.  We are fans of s’mores around here and even “sacrificially” enjoy them regularly (for our kids’ benefit obviously).  We employ all methods.  Outdoors over a fire, indoors now that we have a fireplace, or even oven s’mores, when pressed & fighting the craving (or wanting LESS MESS!).

We have tried all different variations, including Nutella, Peanut Butter (or Reeses!) or Trader Joes’ Speculoos Cookie & Cocoa Swirl Spread instead of Hershey’s.  No matter, when you add in chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers, you really can’t go wrong.

For Alex’s 5th birthday party, we had a camping theme and did S’more Trail Mix as favors (Golden Grahams, mini marshmallows and chocolate chips) and we’ll be taking that to school for his treat this year—-he decided that necessity back in August before school started…

So, today, Alex gets to head out to a birthday party later this afternoon.  We were brainstorming what to get for the present and he immediately decided a “S’mores Kit”.  I am all about experience gifts and fun cooking & eating ventures, so S’mores Kit, it is.

I thought I’d post a link to the PDF (here it is:  SmoresKitPDF) of what I’m putting together in case you are looking for a fun and easy birthday or holiday gift.

  1. I love the Magic Key to Chidren’s Fairyland!!!! I’m sure I had one of those growing up in the East Bay.
Another smores variation is poking a hole in the marshmellow, inserting chocolate so the chocolate melts as the marshmellow is turning golden brown over the campfire. Mike’s discovery on one of our 5 week camping vacations!
